Droppin Dimes – Edition #1

Here at The Message Board we aren’t just about football.  That being said, it’s time you introduce you guy to Droppin Dimes.  Droppin Dimes is the sister blog/pod that accompanies our weekly Throwin Picks podcast where we give our picks for that weeks NFL games, with a couple of changes.  First, Droppin Dimes will feature BOTH College and NBA games, whereas Throwin Picks is strictly NFL.  Second, due to lines for basketball games not usually available until the day of the game, Droppin Dimes will just be previewing the most appealing games, to me, for the coming week.  At the end, I’ll list a line that I would feel very comfortable jumping on.  So let’s hop into it….

Blazers @ Kings

Portland is a -2.5 favorite.  To me this is as close to a gimme as you can get in the betting world.  Sacramento is routinely a dumpster fire and the laughing stock of the league.  This year is no different.  Plus they will be playing this game without De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley, and Harry Giles.  Hood will be back for Portland, along with probably Whiteside.  I’d be surprised if Sacramento can keep this one within double figures.

Oregon vs. Memphis

The Ducks are a 4 point favorite in this one.  Memphis is defying the NCAA (which I love because fuck the NCAA) by playing James Wiseman.  Even with the potential #1 pick playing, I still think Oregon is the best team and I look for them to win this game.  Especially in Oregon, playing the Phil Knight Invitational.  They have something to play for to ensure he keeps stock piling the University with any and everything they want.

Oregon State vs Oklahoma

The second game of the Phil Knight Invitational sees the Beavers as a 2 point dog.  The difference in this one is do-it-all senior Tres Tinkle.  He is a good enough player himself to cover the spread against an Oklahoma team that will finish in the bottom 3rd of the Big 12.  Give me those 2 points all day and take your money.

Villanova vs Ohio State

Getting into the fantastic part of the season that are November preseason tourneys, we get the Wildcats and Buckeyes in the Gavitt Tipoff.  I like Villanova in this one.  They opened the season with a dominating win over Navy where the offense resembled that of the national championship teams of a few years ago.  Jeremiah Robinson-Earl is going to be a major problem for a lot of teams, Ohio State being one.  Give me Villanova -3.5.

Lakers vs Warriors

LeBron playing against the Warriors.  Nevermind that the Warriors won’t have Steph, Klay, or KD.  LeBron will treat this as a game where he has to make a statement.  Take the all-star aspect out of Golden State, plus the Lakers being one of the hotter teams in the league at the moment as you have the makings of a double digit Laker victory.  On top of that, I like LeBron messing around to have a 30/15/12 triple double.

Michigan State vs Seton Hall

A week ago this had the makings of a Game of the Year nominee.  Now, who knows.  Myles Powell is out for Seton Hall with an ankle and Cassius Winston lost his brother in a tragic accident.  Depending on his family situation, it’s very possible that one of the most anticipated games of the non-conference schedule will be without two preseason first team All-Americans.  Obviously, Seton Hall is more than just Powell and MSU is more than just Winston, but their absence (or potential absence) can’t be ignored.  Michigan State -7, -4 IF Winston doesn’t make the trip.

Bonus pick/advice:

Do me a favor and look at the results of the games played by The Citadel the last couple years.  It is not a typo when you’re scrolling through the games and see an over/under in the 180s while the rest of the games are in the 130s and 140s.  If you ever see a Citadel game with a line under 170, HAMMER THE FUCK OUT OF IT!!!  Same goes for any time you can get a line with the opponents team total.  If it’s under 90, book it.
